Outreach activities
I enjoy science communication and organizing STEM events, for which I often also handle the project management that keeps them running. I give talks and help run contests and camps that reach thousands of high-school students each year, working with the FYKOS non-profit as well as some other organizations active in this field. Within FYKOS I serve as the head organizer of the Fyziklani competition.
About Fyziklani
Fyziklani is a three-hour competition where five-member teams try to solve as many progressively harder problems as possible. In 2026, we welcomed more than 1,400 students from Europe, Asia, and South America, making it the largest event of its kind in Europe.
Besides the competition itself, we organize an almost week-long program of lectures, discussions with scientists and lab tours, complemented by social events such as party and buffet dinner, giving participants from around the world a chance to meet and get to know each other.
As Head Organizer I coordinate a year-round preparation cycle with more than 140 volunteers, including a core team of 10 to 20 people. Our team manages the budget, works with partners, drafts and peer-reviews about fifty new problems each year, maintains the IT systems, designs all graphics and printed materials, plans the accompanying program, promotes the event, and handles the on-site logistics that let all participants check in quickly and keep everything running on schedule. The role gives me daily practice in team leadership, project management, and communication with students, teachers, partners, university staff, and official guests – all of which offers constant opportunities to learn something new.
Other FYKOS events
Beyond Fyziklani, FYKOS runs several other projects:
- Physics Brawl Online, which now draws more than 6,000 students from 80+ countries each November – making it the largest online team-physics competition in the world
- FYKOS correspondence competition with six rounds of challenging problems a year
- FYKOS camps full of educational and fun activities for the best Czech and Slovak participants of the correspondence competition; some hand-outs from selected talks at these camps are available here →
- Other events including Day with Experimental Physics and Náboj Physics in Czechia
Similarly to Fyziklani, my role in these projects consists of team and project management while also trying to contribute to maths and physics aspects where needed.
All FYKOS projects are non-profit, organized by volunteers and financed through donations and support of our partners. If you'd like to help us reach even more students, you may consider supporting FYKOS →
Other outreach & talks
Beyond FYKOS projects I have experience in designing program blocks for several other STEM camps, covering mathematics, chemistry, and physics for pupils from the first years of elementary school through to final-year secondary students. A few times a year I also give talks for student audiences such as Olympiad participants or attendees of lecture nights.
Czech-language hand-outs from selected talks and other materials are available here →
